Holly-leaved Mahonia or Mahonia Faux Holly is a semi-persistent shrub native to the northwest United States,
It is a thorny shrub from 0.5 to 2.0 metres. Its leaves are composed of leaflets lined with thorny teeth and recall the leaves of holly.
Its yellow flowers at flowering become blue berries then black at maturity.
